About Our Events 2020
*Membership is required to attend all rides*
During the spring, summer and fall EBTC runs a variety of rides. There are day rides that repeat weekly on a designated weekday for several consecutive weeks; choices range from a short trail ride, an “Out and Back” ride on a weekday evening or a longer weekend endurance road ride. Volunteer ride coordinators offer single day rides with destinations including Miquelon Lake Provincial Park, Pigeon Lake and interesting places within reasonable driving distances from Edmonton. For those people new to riding in a group or riding longer distances, consider signing up for the rides labelled “Novice”.
EBTC has adopted a ride rating description for all events on our calendar. The ride rating description is as follows:
Unfortunately, all social events for 2021 are cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Members of the Edmonton Bicycle and Touring Club are a friendly group who enjoy getting together for fun times. Our social rides usually have a specific destination/theme, often involving food or coffee and an opportunity to meet and socialize with members. Our most famous social ride is “Al’s Bakery Ride”! First Stop Sunbake Pita in North Edmonton and working our way South to the Duchess Bakery! Whether it is getting together for coffee after a ride or spending some weekend hours at Elk Island cycling and sharing a picnic, we have fun and would be pleased if you could join us.
The Stamina Builder series is for all cyclists. These Saturday or Sunday morning rides enable member riders to progressively build endurance to prepare for longer rides or just get into good cycling fitness. The rides have various starting points between the west end of Edmonton, Spruce Grove, Beaumont and St-Albert for Saturday. The Sunday morning rides start at the Ardrossan Recreation Complex. A focus of each ride will be safe riding. Bring your well-maintained bike and cell phone for an enjoyable tour on good roads with some rolling hills. Beginner riders welcome! As no paper maps will be provided, please make sure you have Ride with GPS on your phone, download the route on your GPS device or print out a map. As the distances increase, participants will need to ride more independently.
Marquee Event – Tour de L’Alberta
In 2019 we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Tour de l’ Alberta. We had initiated development plans for the 26th Tour when we were faced with the Covid-19 pandemic which put them on hold. We look forward to planning a new event when Covid is safely behind us.
Unfortunately, all multi-day cycling trips for 2021 are cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
EBTC previously offered multi-day cycling trips. It is a great way to enjoy a variety of landscapes and connect more deeply with your destination. Multi-day trips like the Silver Triangle are offered on a cost recovery basis and participant numbers are limited. These trips involve anywhere between 60 to 120km of riding a day on routes that may include some intense climbing and may or may not have vehicle support. Hopefully, we can resume these trips in the future.
