Jasper in the fall – ahh! This Jasper Ride typically held near the end of the riding season when climbing skills are at the best! Experience 2 days of riding in beautiful Jasper National Park. Saturday’s ride takes you to Maligne Lake and Sunday starts and ends at Miette Hot Springs!

Cycling in Jasper: September 8 and 9

Coordinator:  Tim Doskoch

This is a trip with two rides and a number of options for accommodations. People generally head out on the Friday – Sept 7.

September 8th:  Maligne Lake and back an 1100 m elevation gain.  This is a beautiful ride that is a pretty constant climb to the lake and then a nice downhill all the way back.  It is a 100 km out and back from downtown Jasper.  There is water enroute at the Maligne Canyon Hostel and a restaurant at Maligne Lake.  This is a, classic spectacular ride. We meet at 10 am at the totem pole across from the park office on Connaught Ave in downtown Jasper. Bring a lunch or money for eating at the cafeteria. The route is at:https://ridewithgps.com/routes/22688138

September 9th:  Jasper Pyramid. This time we start heading west to Portal Lake rest area. From there it is back to Jasper and the end of the warmup because then we climb Pyramid Lake road and head to the lake. Once we get to the lake we will check out the small island and then ride back to our starting point. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26888309

This is a great weekend for riders with spouses that don’t ride – there is lots to do in Jasper. The trick is that accommodations could be hard to come by. I have campsite 60a at Whistlers campground, if you are tenting please consider booking your spot now close to where we are. Last year we had 15 people out and it was hard to find a place for dinner. If the weather is nice we will have a BBQ at the campsite – it will either be a pot luck affair or we can just chip in to get food in Jasper and eat it at the campground. Please bring a chair along.

Consider booking your accommodation early – the sooner the better. Terry Fannon has booked an OTentik and is wondering if anyone would like to share with him? Tilly mentioned that she thought it would be a good idea for the club to rent one or two for the weekend. They cost $120 per night, have 3 beds and sleep up to 6 people. Here is a connection to the OTentic website:  http://www.pc.gc.ca/en/voyage-travel/hebergement-accommodation/otentik  Please let me know if you are interested in the OTentick option

-One option would be to stay at the HI hostel that is on Skytram road. One person two nights is around $55.

-Another option is to stay in a hotel or motel in Jasper – you will need to make your own reservation

-A third option is try Air BnB for Jasper.

– Whistlers campground is large and  can be booked online at: https://reservation.pc.gc.ca/Jasper%2FWhistlersCampground%3FMap

I am sure we can arrange some carpooling for the trip.  Please let me know if you are interested, if you are available to carpool or need a ride at: timdosko(at)gmail.com.
