New for 2021: Ride and Other Event Pre-Registration
Pandemic restrictions and guidelines may be with us into the 2021 riding season, including a maximum (cap) for the number of participants in outdoor activities. To offer rides (and events) that are safe for members – at ride start, on the road, at the end of a ride – EBTC has introduced an on-line registration service for all rides. This is an extension of the Karelo registration service used for such purposes as EBTC membership and overnight trips.
EBTC will comply with Alberta’s Public Health Mandatory Measures and Guidelines, setting and updating the cap on participants for a ride (or event). Members will be able to pre-register up to the cap. See more below about registering, cancelling, waitlists and, for popular rides, staggered start times.
Questions and Answers for Members
How do I pre-register?
It’s easy. In the Calendar of Events, choose the ride that interests you and click on the ‘link’. Enter the Karelo log-in you created for EBTC membership and fill out the simple on-line form. You will recieve an e-mail* confirmation. Note: emils will come from Karelo on behalf of EBTC.
Won’t every ride just be filled to the cap early in the season?
No, EBTC will ‘open’ rides for pre-registration before the ride date (the ‘link’ to pre-register will work 6 days before a weekly ride; 14 days before a unique ride).
Can I pre-register for another person when I pre-register for myself?
Yes, the on-line form lets you register other EBTC members, whether family or friend. You will receive the e-mail* confirmation, not the other member.
Can I cancel my pre-registration?
Yes. Also, if you pre-registered yourself and another member, you can ‘remove’ one person or cancel the entire registration. You will receive an e-mail* confirmation for the cancellation.
What if I try to pre-register for a ride after the cap on riders has been reached?
A message will advise you that the event is full but, by pre-registering, you will be added to the Waitlist. Members on the Waitlist will be moved onto the ride: – if/as spots become available due to cancellations, or – if the Waitlist is long and the Ride Leader can identify another Ride Leader for a 2nd group, departing at an alternate time. You will receive an e-mail* if you are put on a Waitlist, and if you are moved from the Waitlist onto the original or 2nd ride. In each case, the e-mail will contain a ‘Change Registration’ link if you decide to cancel and give up your spot.
Will I still have to sign-in by hand at the start of a ride?
No, Ride Leaders will have a list of pre-registered riders.
Will popular rides have a cap on the number of riders?
Yes. As well, EBTC is planning staggered start times, each with its own ‘link’ in the Calendar of Events for pre-registration to the cap.
What if I show up but haven’t pre-registered for the ride?
If the ride is full, the Ride Leader will advise that you cannot ride with the EBTC group. If the ride is not full, however, the Ride Leader may ask you to pre-register on your mobile phone.
