Stamina Builder Enduro 160

Stamina Builder Enduro 160 (Sunday AM) Advanced

Dates: April 10– July 17, 2022

Time: April: 10AM; May 9:30AM; June & July 9AM. Please arrive early enough to roll out on time.

Starting point: varies,  April: SW corner of parking lot at Ardrossan rec centre, 80 – 1st Ave Ardrossan. May, June and July starting points will vary as the group decides on new routes with starting points at Spruce Grove, St. Albert and Devon.

Ride Rating/focus: Challenging/training

Skill level/distance/appropriate bike: Advanced; progression from 60-160km; road bike

Ride Description: This ride series, starting at 50km and increasing 10km per week until we reach 160km, is best suited for advanced road bike riders who want to challenge themselves to prepare for a full century ride by mid-July. While no one has ever been left behind, riders should be self-sufficient and carry a repair kit and any water and snacks required. Longer routes will ensure a water refill stop is available. Use your electronic device to ensure you can follow the route. Unless weather is a threat, the ride normally proceeds with a few hardy souls each week.

Vegreville-Two Hills Tour

Vegreville/Two Hills Tour

Time:  Saturday July 2, 2021 – Arrive at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM start.

Starting Point:  Vegreville (about 100 km east of Edmonton on Highway 16) – meet at the Pysanka (the big Egg at the east end of town) before 10:00 AM. Take the Highway 16A exit to Vegreville and you will see the Pysanka as you drive through town.

Skill Level/Distance/Appropriate Bike:  Intermediate/100 km/ Road Bike/Social

Route Maps:  A route map will be provided at the start of the ride.

Ride Description:  This 100km ride will go north from Vegreville on Highway 857 to Highway 29. Turn right on Highway 29 and continue to Highway 45 and on to Two Hills (about 55 kms). Take a lunch break in Two Hills and return to Vegreville via Highway 36 and Highway 631 (about 45 kms). The first part of the route is flat but as you approach Two Hills and return to Vegreville there are a few rolling hills. This is not a difficult ride but expect a headwind for some of the ride.

No cost, but bring your own lunch or you can buy lunch from the IGA store or from a restaurant in Two Hills.  There is a new bakery/coffee shop and ice cream kiosk in Two Hills that opened in 2021. This will be a supported ride and will be held weather permitting. A mini-van will be available for carrying water, lunches and small personal items.  The van is not equipped to haul bikes or passengers. Traffic along the route – light to moderate.  Riding route – good with a narrow shoulder on Hwy 857 for about 30 km and a good riding shoulder for the rest of the route. Pavement is in good to excellent shape. Showers are available at the end of the ride at the Town of Vegreville Campsite, located adjacent to the Pysanka.

If you are interested in checking out Vegreville’s Ukrainian heritage at the end of the ride this is the last day of the local 3 day Ukrainian Pysanka Festival (depending on Covid restrictions). Admission to the festival grounds is free and there are several spots to sample some delicious authentic Ukrainian food.

Dog Rump Creek

Date: Saturday, Sept 10

Time: 11AM; arrive 15mins. early

Start Location: Devon Independent Foods parking lot near Dairy Queen

Ride Rating/Focus: Intermediate/Social

Description: We will head North from Devon and West on paved country roads through the communities of Graminia, Golden Spike, Garden Valley, Stony Plain and Holborn.  Bring your own lunch or buy one at Dog Rump Creek which also has washrooms and drinking water. Note: 2 big hills and some rolling hills. Distance 83km.

Beaumont (95km) to Miquelon Lake

Start Time: meet 9:45 AM for 10:00 start

Starting Point: Beaumont No Frills 50th Street and Hwy 625 (turn at 30th Ave.)

Miquelon Lk from Beaumont

Ride Description: Both distances are on good pavement, light to moderate traffic. On less busy roads shoulders are narrow to non-existent; on busier sections shoulders are wider. There are no hills but expect to ride into a breeze on the return. We will supply light snacks and beverages at the lake. We will also have a cooler if you want to bring your own lunch in a sealed bag with your name on it. We have a rest stop at New Sarepta both out and back with washrooms.

NOTE: As you get close to the lake on Rollyview Road, do NOT turn off on Miquelon North Road; continue to the park.
